Apple has dropped support for Java, however the fat lady has not sung her song for Snow Leopard.  If you want to keep Java current for Snow Leopard (and Lion, and Mountain Lion), you can download it from the OpenJDK project here:  https://code.google.com/p/openjdk-osx-build/
